Toshiba delisted after 74 years on bourse

Japan's Toshiba Corporation on Wednesday was delisted from Japanese stock exchanges, ending its 74-year-long history as a publicly traded company. The electronics giant saw its common shares delisted from the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Premier Market of the Nagoya Stock Exchange on the trading day. "Toshiba Group will now take a major step toward a new future with a new shareholder," the company said in a statement, as it now aims for reconstruction under a new management team that seeks to relist its stock in about five years. A 2-trillion yen ($13.9 billion) takeover bid for Toshiba by a consortium led by Japan Industrial Partners succeeded in September.

At least 10 people were killed in floods after intense rainfall in southern India, local media reported Wednesday, weeks after a cyclone triggered intense flooding in the same areas. Hundreds were stranded in the state of Tamil Nadu as water submerged roads, with the air force dropping 10 tons of emergency supplies to those stranded. Footage from the news agency Press Trust of India showed entire neighborhoods under water, with rescue teams using boats. The heavy rains come just two weeks after at least eight people were killed by Cyclone Michaung, which hit Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states on Dec 6.

Ethiopia, Egypt say no deal in talks over dam

Ethiopia and Egypt said the latest round of talks over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam ended with no deal. The countries blamed each other after three days of discussions in Addis Ababa concluded on Tuesday. Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation said the talks were unsuccessful due to Ethiopia's "persistent refusal" to accept any compromise. The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry accused Egypt of putting up "roadblocks" in the discussions. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said in July that they would aim to finalize a deal over the dam within four months.
