The China Meteorological Administration warned on Tuesday that from Wednesday to Saturday, a new round of snow and cold waves is expected to sweep across the central and eastern parts of the country, triggering a level II emergency response, raised from level III.
The upcoming snowfall is predicted to be extreme, with some areas experiencing the highest snowfall in nearly a decade. Heavily affected areas include northern China and the Yellow and Huai rivers region.
Since Sunday, heavy snowfall and blizzards have hit the northern and central regions of China. The weather has posed serious challenges for public transportation and water supply services and has prompted many schools to suspend classes.
