Key meeting to bolster riparian cooperation

Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe will jointly host the eighth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Beijing on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Wednesday. As the first new type of subregional cooperation mechanism initiated and established by the six riparian countries in 2016, the LMC has made a series of achievements, Wang said, adding that China will work with those countries to build a community with a shared future.

Probe ordered after 85 killed in army mistake

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday ordered a thorough investigation into a weekend military drone attack that killed at least 85 people, including women and children, in northern Kaduna. Army spokesman Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said that troops carrying out aerial patrols observed a group of people and "wrongly analyzed and misinterpreted their pattern of activities to be similar to that of the bandits" before the airstrike.

Hollywood turmoil ends as actors ratify deal

Members of the actors' union approved a three-year contract with major studios on Tuesday, formally ending six months of Hollywood labor disputes that halted film and television production. The new contract provides for pay raises and streaming bonuses that union leaders said amounted to more than $1 billion over three years. It also includes guardrails around the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking, though some actors complained that the AI protections were not sufficient.
