Tencent, a Chinese technology giant, launched a global version of its TanLIVE, a free online platform for climate tech innovations, on the sidelines of the COP28 United Nations climate change conference on Friday.

The company first launched a Chinese version of the platform late last year in China, hoping it will help connect stakeholders of low-carbon technologies, including entrepreneurs, investors, and research institutions.

The operation of the Chinese version has gone "far beyond our expectations", said Xu Hao, Tencent vice-president of sustainable social value.

In less than one year, over 1,000 organizations have registered with TanLIVE, and many of them have carried out activities under the platform, he said.

This has propelled them to promote the platform to the international community and launch the global version, he continued.

TanLIVE offers collaborative tools including community networking and an ecosystem of vetted technological and financing solutions for these stakeholders of low-carbon technologies, such as entrepreneurs, investors, and research institutions.

Through the TanLIVE community, users can tap different resources to spur innovation and build influence.

The Tool Lab under the platform, for instance, provides tools and data to help innovators find local policies, open tenders and investors.

Formerly known as the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the two-week-long annual UN gathering of COP28 kicked off on Thursday in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
