Miao people celebrate ancestor, King of Pan

Miao ethnic people in Jianghua Yao autonomous county, Hunan province, commemorated Panwang, or the King of Pan, who is believed to be their ancestor, on Tuesday.

The nine-day Panwang Festival begins on the 16th day of the 10th lunar month, which fell on Nov 28 this year. During the festival, the Miao don traditional clothes and celebrate with dances, singing and banquets.

The opening ceremony of the festival was held on Monday night, with performances showcasing local culture.

This year will feature a variety of events — live performances, a basketball competition, an exhibition and footraces.
