The 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, which concluded on Tuesday, attracted more than 1,800 representatives of over 100 countries, regions and international organizations who discussed an array of topics including major countries' responsibilities and global security cooperation, and the Asia-Pacific security architecture under the theme of "Common Security, Lasting Peace".

Against the backdrop of the Ukraine crisis and the Palestine-Israel conflict, the increased attention the forum drew shows how important it is for countries to discuss security issues and exchange views on how to better safeguard regional and global security.

The Global Security Initiative proposed by China could help resolve many global security governance issues. As a key platform for promoting the initiative, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum provides an opportunity for all parties to seek solutions to security problems and promote security cooperation under the initiative's framework.

All the parties that attended the three-day forum agreed that major countries bear special responsibility for maintaining global peace and security. The forum is an ideal platform for major countries to engage with each other even if their relations are not exactly hunky-dory. The forum allows Western powers to fully understand the views of other countries and listen to what the latter have to say.

The forum also allows developing countries to be heard, especially during discussions on issues related to the Global South, the BRICS grouping, and security along the Belt and Road. This makes the forum among a handful which take into serious consideration the legitimate concerns and demands of developing countries.

To achieve common security, it is very important to resolve the differences and disputes among countries through dialogue and consultation. At the forum, representatives of Israel and Arab states, as well as Russia and Ukraine were invited to hold dialogue with each other, and take part in other, general discussions.

As an analyst said, although it is difficult to solve complex security issues in one meeting, as long as all parties sit down and talk with each other, strengthen communication and look to the future, they can find a way to resolve issues.

In addition, due to the emergence of nontraditional security issues such as cybersecurity and bio-security, the forum also organized discussions on subjects such as artificial intelligence technology to better coordinate the countries' actions so that nontraditional security threats can be better countered and long-term solutions to global problems can be found.
