Monitors have found 14 pairs of red-crowned cranes nesting and breeding in the wild at the Liaohekou National Nature Reserve in Panjin, Liaoning province, a testament to the success of a captive breeding program, according to experts from the Liaoning Crane Breeding Base.

The successful captive breeding of 15 baby red-crowned cranes and their subsequent release into the wild set a record and was a milestone in the program.

The red-crowned crane is one of 15 crane species worldwide and is exclusively distributed in Northeast Asia, the experts said.
