Daxing airport wins international awards
Beijing Daxing International Airport received four international awards on Wednesday in Incheon, South Korea. During the event, Airports Council International presented the Airport Service Quality Awards for 2022. Not only did Beijing Daxing International Airport retain the title of Best Airport according to the ACI, but it also received three additional awards introduced by the ACI in 2022: Most Delightful Airport in the Asia-Pacific region, Most Dedicated Airport Employees in the Asia-Pacific region, and Cleanest Airport in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the only airport in the country to have won all four major awards at the same time.
7 missing, 3 injured in rain-triggered slides
At least seven people are missing and three others injured as heavy rains triggered mountain torrents and landslides in Northwest China's Gansu province, authorities said Thursday. Two townships in Xiahe county of the Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture were hit by the landslides at around 3 am Thursday and the accumulated precipitations reached 50.2 mm and 31.8 mm, respectively. Among the missing, six were construction workers. The injured have been rushed to hospital and their injuries are not life-threatening. Rescuers have been mobilized to search for the missing.
Archaeologist honored for her contributions
Renowned Chinese archaeologist Fan Jinshi was awarded by UNESCO on Thursday for her outstanding contribution in the protection of the Dunhuang Mogao Caves. The certificate of outstanding contribution was also given to the Dunhuang Academy, Chang Shuhong, honorary president of the academy and Duan Wenjie, former president of the academy. Born in 1938, Fan graduated from Peking University in 1963 and started working in Dunhuang. She has made protecting and researching the grottoes her lifelong passion. She is also the honorary president of the Dunhuang Academy and has been dubbed the "daughter of Dunhuang".
Ex-official from Tibet stands trial for graft
Zhang Yongze, former vice-chairman of the government of Tibet autonomous region, on Thursday pleaded guilty to taking bribes. The case was heard by the Intermediate People's Court of Xi'an in Shaanxi province. Between 2003 and 2021, Zhang allegedly took advantage of his various positions in Tibet to assist other individuals and entities in matters such as project contracting and personnel promotion. In return, he accepted money and property valued at over 51.8 million yuan ($7.2 million). The verdict will be announced in due course.
Former supreme court judge under probe
Zheng Xuelin, former chief judge of the No 1 Civil Adjudication Tribunal of China's Supreme People's Court, is under probe for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and laws, an official statement said Thursday. Zheng is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, according to the statement.
