Adora Magic City, China's first domestically made large cruise ship, embarked on its second trial voyage on Thursday, 45 days after it successfully completed its first trial, according to China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd.

More than 1,300 people, including the ship owner, ship inspectors, contractors, service providers, as well as engineers and technicians from Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, are involved in the second trial voyage.

Cruise ships usually go on two sea trials before they receive their certifications from major international classification societies, said Lin Guolong, director of Shanghai Maritime University's Logistics Research Center.

The cruise ship successfully completed its first sea trial on July 24, one day ahead of schedule, and is seen as a significant milestone in China's shipbuilding industry in terms of the design and construction of large cruise ships.

The first trial, which lasted eight days, was attended by 1,217 people and saw a battery of tests performed on critical components including the navigation system, propulsion system, power station management (PMS) system, fire alarm system, and broadcasting system.

Built by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, the 135,500-gross-tonnage vessel will be delivered by the end of this year.

The 323.6-meter-long and 37.2-meter-wide cruise ship can accommodate a maximum of 5,246 guests. It will have a luxury hotel, cinemas and a water park on board.
