A man in Dongguan, Guangdong province, has been placed in criminal detention after impersonating a doctor in order to tamper with his wife's blood sample, which had been taken following suspected drunk driving, as reported by the Nanfang Metropolis Daily on Wednesday.

The incident dates back to Aug 7 at 1:45 am when a driver named Huang was pulled over for a routine breathalyzer test by the traffic police in Dongguan. The breathalyzer indicated a blood alcohol content of 162 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood. Huang was subsequently transported to a hospital for a blood alcohol test. However, the results the following morning showed her blood alcohol content to be zero, which raised suspicions.

Local authorities promptly launched an investigation into this irregularity, which eventually led them to Huang's husband, a man named Zhu. It was revealed that Zhu, in an attempt to shield his wife from legal consequences, surreptitiously entered the hospital. He donned a stolen doctor's white coat and gained access to the forensic laboratory at 5:04 am, where he diluted Huang's blood sample with water, causing the test to register zero alcohol content. Zhu later admitted to his illicit actions during questioning.

Subsequently, the police conducted another test on the backup blood sample from Huang, which revealed a blood alcohol content of 161.9 milligrams per 100 milliliters, confirming the case of drunk driving.

Zhu has since been detained for criminal activities, and Huang will face legal consequences imposed by the traffic police department for her drunk driving.

The Dongguan traffic police issued a reminder that alcohol impairs a driver's reaction time and control, emphasizing that drivers should abstain from alcohol while driving.
