Top legislator meets with Arab Parliament representative

China's top legislator Zhao Leji stressed on Monday the need for stronger trust and cooperation between China and the Arab world during talks with Arab Parliament speaker Adel Al-Asoomi in Beijing.

Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, signed a memorandum of understanding with Al-Asoomi over the establishment of an exchange mechanism between the NPC and the Arab Parliament after their meeting.

Zhao urged the two sides to jointly move forward with the Belt and Road Initiative, carry forward the spirit of the Riyadh Declaration of the First China-Arab States Summit and uphold true multilateralism.

Al-Asoomi said Arab countries firmly adhere to the one-China principle and support the major initiatives proposed by China, adding the Arab Parliament is willing to strengthen exchanges with the NPC and contribute to the development of Arab-China relations through legislative cooperation.
