12 baby Chinese alligators have been successfully hatched at the breeding center of the Anhui Chinese Alligator National Nature Reserve, marking the beginning of the hatching season for the alligator eggs in 2023.

The Chinese alligator, aka Yangtze alligator, is an oviparous animal, entering its mating season in early June and beginning to lay eggs by early July, according to the reserve. The hatching of alligator eggs in the wild can be affected by various factors such as weather and other wildlife. To ensure the successful hatching of Chinese alligator eggs, the reserve collects the eggs from the wild and carries out artificial incubation.
