Wuhan University caters to married graduate students

Married graduate students who are beginning their doctoral programs can apply to live in the same dormitory room at Wuhan University in Hubei province as part of the school's effort to personalize services for students.
Both partners should be full-time students and present their marriage certificate before applying, the university's logistics support department said on Thursday. Designated rooms have two beds, desks, chairs and wardrobes, with a balcony and bathroom. Couples will pay rent of 3,000 yuan per year after approval.
The university has 109 dormitory buildings. Some rooms were renovated to meet different demands of students. Couples' rooms have been offered since 2021, when three couples lived on campus, China Youth Daily reported.
Every year, the university will welcome about 2,200 new doctoral students, but only a few are couples. This year, it prepared eight rooms for such students, and three couples have applied so far.
The university also designed longer beds for students taller than 1.95 meters.
