WHO eye care collaboration center opens in Guangzhou

A World Health Organization Collaboration Center for Eye Care and Vision was launched at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University on Saturday.
The center, the 10th of its kind globally, will be dedicated to assisting the WHO in research on global eye health management and technological promotion.
Lin Haotian, director of the Guangzhou-based center, said at the launch ceremony the center has carried out multiple technological cooperation projects with the WHO in the past two decades. The results of the center's research on myopia were included in some of the WHO's reports.
The center will deepen its cooperation with the WHO in fields including myopia control, eye care capability improvement, eye health assessment, grassroots medical institution building and training, he said.
WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a congratulatory message he has no doubt the center will not relent in its efforts toward excellent ophthalmic care, research and education at the national, regional and global levels.
