Imran Khan held, jailed for 3 years
The Islamabad police arrested former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan on Saturday from his residence in Lahore after a local court sentenced him to three-year imprisonment for hiding his financial assets. The media wing of Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said he was arrested after the court released arrest warrants for Khan. Earlier in the day, Additional District and Sessions Judge in Islamabad Humayun Dilawar announced a short order to sentence Khan in the Toshakhana case (national gift case) and disqualified him from holding any office for five years.

Landslide toll rises to 17, hundreds rescued
The death toll after a landslide in western Georgia had risen to 17 on Sunday, the country's Interior Ministry said. Seventeen bodies had been found by rescuers, it said, and more than 200 people had been transported to safety during the rescue operation. Local reports said the number of victims was likely to rise. On Saturday, Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili said dozens of pieces of heavy equipment were engaged in rescue work. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili signed a decree declaring Monday a day of mourning to honor the landslide victims.

At least 30 migrants missing in shipwrecks
At least 30 migrants are missing following two shipwrecks off the Italian island of Lampedusa, according to survivor testimony, the UN's migration agency said Sunday. Around 28 people were reported lost at sea on one boat, while three were reported missing from the second after both went down in stormy weather on Saturday, said the International Organization for Migration. An investigation into the shipwrecks has been opened in Agrigento, on the nearby Italian island of Sicily.
