Sino-Russian joint military exercise begins

A joint military exercise organized by Chinese and Russian militaries officially kicked off in the Sea of Japan this week, and a series of drills will be conducted in the four-day exercise, according to a Xinhua News Agency report.
Over the four days, the participating forces from China and Russia will carry joint exercises in various areas such as maritime and air escort, deterrence and expulsion, and anchorage defense, the report said.
China and Russia are each other's largest neighboring countries and comprehensive strategic partners, and the two militaries are important forces in promoting and maintaining regional peace and stability, it said.
