Zhong Nanshan, a prominent Chinese medical scientist, urged young medical experts and scientists to boldly innovate in their scientific research.

Zhong said young scientists and medical experts should not blindly believe in authority because "authority may not always be right".

Zhong made the remarks in his keynote speech at the 2nd Zhong Nanshan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award Ceremony on Friday.

"Young medical staff should dare to tell the truth of the facts," he said.

The award named after Zhong's name was awarded in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) in the Guandong provincial capital's Nansha district, with an aim to encourage and nurture more young scientists and experts in medical science and life science.

Zhong is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and winner of the Medal of the Republic, the nation's highest honor.

A total of 10 young medical experts and scientists won the special award.

Xu Xiao, vice-president of the All-China Youth Federation and vice-chairman of All-China Youth Federation, said his federations would further promote scientific and technological innovation to nurture young scientific and technological talents and build a platform for the growth and development of young scientific and technological workers.
