Air raid kills 22 as UN warns civil war
Conflict-torn Sudan is on the brink of a "full-scale civil war" that could destabilize the entire region, the United Nations warned on Sunday, after an airstrike on a residential area killed around two dozen people. The ministry of health reported 22 dead from the strike in Khartoum's sister city Omdurman, in the district of Dar al-Salam. After nearly three months of conflict between Sudan's rival generals, the airstrike is the latest incident to provoke outrage.
BRAZIL
Toll rises to 14 in building collapse
Fourteen people have died in the partial collapse of a building in northeastern Brazil, the authorities said on Saturday, as they concluded the search for survivors. Earlier, a toll of 11 dead was announced, but firefighters searching through the debris later found the bodies of a woman and two children on Friday in Paulista, a city in the state of Pernambuco. The three-story structure, which was attached to a larger housing complex, had been closed in 2010 due to the risk of collapse but had been illegally occupied since then, the authorities said.
