Protests threaten major scenic spots amid peak tourism season in summer

French authorities have faced riots and looting since 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, a French citizen of Algerian and Moroccan descent, was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop on June 27, which rekindled long-standing accusations of systemic racism among security forces.
