China's southernmost nuclear power base is located in Changjiang county, Hainan province.

The Changjiang Nuclear Power Units 1 and 2 there were put into full commercial operation in 2016, with a total installed capacity of 1.3 million kilowatts. The annual power generation accounts for nearly one-third of the electricity supply in Hainan, saving 3.07 million metric tons of standard coal and reducing CO2 emissions by 8.04 million tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 26,000 tons and nitrogen oxide emissions by 22,000 tons per year.
