Former official pleads guilty to bribery

Gong Jianhua, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress, was charged with taking bribes worth 83.6 million yuan ($11.7 million) and pleaded guilty at trial on Thursday. The Zhangzhou Intermediate People's Court in Fujian province heard Gong's case for the first time in public. Gong confessed to his crimes and made a final statement. The court will issue its verdict later.

Police bust gang making counterfeit alcohol

Police in Yunnan province's Shuangjiang county have busted a major counterfeit alcohol operation, seizing 161,722 bottles of fake spirits with a market value of 530 million yuan ($74 million), the largest seizure in recent years of counterfeit liquor in the province. The investigation began on Dec 29, 2021, and ended up catching five suspects.
