Foundation releases organ donor statistics in China

More than 6.26 million people are registered as volunteer posthumous organ donors in China, the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation said in a news release on Thursday.
According to the foundation, more than 45,800 organ donations have been completed and nearly 140,000 organs having been donated since voluntary posthumous organ donations were approved in the country in 2010. This initiative has to date saved the lives of over 100,000 individuals.
The foundation revealed that 1,594 organ donation cases were completed over the last three months, an increase of 13 percent compared to the same period last year. However, the organ donation rate per million people in China last year was 3.98, lower than the international level.
A new regulation regarding organ donation and transplantation will soon be unveiled to further promote development in this area, according to the foundation.
