Man detained in probe of Tianjin explosions
A 46-year-old man was detained on suspicion of blowing up two residential apartments on Tuesday night in Hedong district, Tianjin, causing three deaths and multiple injuries, according to an announcement from the district's public security bureau. It said several houses nearby suffered damage due to the blasts, and the preliminary findings suggest that the explosions were caused by the deliberate use of fireworks and firecrackers. Investigation of the explosions is underway and medical treatment has been provided to the injured individuals.
Senior provincial adviser investigated
A senior political adviser of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province is under a probe for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and laws, according to an official statement released Wednesday. Qu Min, vice-chairman of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.
