Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province reported remarkable improvements in environmental quality in 2022, according to a report published by the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment on June 2.

The report shows that all surface water located within municipal control sections and centralized water sources at or above county level met the required quality standards.

Air quality in Huzhou was excellent, with almost 78 percent of days in the year experiencing good air quality. The average annual PM2.5 concentration was 29 micrograms per cubic meter.

Notably, the average environmental noise level stood at 53.6 decibels, while the average road traffic noise level reached 64.6 decibels, both of which were better than the previous year's levels.

Additionally, the amount of ecological resources in Huzhou also increased in 2022; the city's total water resources amounted to 3.45 billion cubic meters, while the forest coverage rate reached 47.55 percent, including over 1.2 million mu (80,000 hectares) of forests at the provincial level or above.

Last year, Huzhou also received approval from the State Council to build a national demonstration zone for the sustainable development of agenda innovation, becoming the only city in Zhejiang to be included in the program.
