There were close to three million coffee take-out users in Shanghai over the past year, according to data released by food delivery platform Meituan at a news conference for the third Shanghai Coffee Culture Week in Shanghai on Tuesday.

This year's coffee week will take place from May 20 to June 2.

Data also shows that Shanghai accounts for one-tenth of coffee consumption in China, the highest among all Chinese cities.

Social media platform Xiaohongshu, or Red, also released its coffee trend insight report, which revealed that about 70 percent of users on the platform have a habit of drinking coffee, and about 50 percent of users drink more than one cup of coffee per week.

Shanghai, which is home to more than 7,000 coffee outlets, the highest in the world, has been hosting the annual coffee culture week since 2021. This year's event will provide free coffee and feature various events such as coffee markets.

Multiple coffee brands, including Luckin coffee, McCafe, NOWWA, and Yongpu Coffee will collaborate with delivery platforms like Eleme.com and Meituan to offer at least 500,000 cups of free coffee throughout the year.

Related coffee fairs will be held at Xuhui's West Bund area, Xintiandi in Huangpu district, and Daxue Road in Yangpu district during the coffee week.
