Provincial political adviser under probe
A senior political adviser of Zhejiang province is under a probe for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and laws, according to an official statement released on Thursday. Zhu Congjiu, a member of the leading Party members group of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice-chairperson of the committee, is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.
Inner Mongolia to invest in afforestation
The Inner Mongolia autonomous region plans to invest 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) in social funds to improve local biodiversity of the Hunshandake Sandland in the next three years. Merely 180 kilometers from Beijing and among China's four major sandy areas, the Hunshandake Sandland has a fragile ecological environment due to natural causes and human activities, causing frequent dusty weather and sandstorms. In 2018, China initiated a pilot afforestation project in the sandland. According to the regional forestry and grassland department, all sectors of society, including enterprises, will combine to donate 100 million yuan in the coming three years to support the pilot construction of large-scale forest farms in the sandland.
Qing Dynasty stone tablet found in Hebei
A stone tablet dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) has been discovered in Hebei province, according to local authorities. Measuring 150 centimeters high, 65 cm wide and 20 cm thick, the bluestone tablet was found in Guozhai village of the city of Xingtai, said the district's cultural relics protection department. The tablet was made in 1735 during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng. It has inscriptions on both sides, describing the state of the local economy and society at that time and the changes in river distribution. The tablet also records that a flood left a road cut off after persistent rains in summer, and the process by which local residents rebuilt a bridge.
Police investigate non-fatal shooting
Police in Jiangyin, Jiangsu province, are investigating a shooting that happened at a private club on Thursday morning. Two people were shot by a homemade gun, according to CQCB.com. Local police have confirmed that nobody died in the shooting, but refused to release more information. The club, which is located near Piling Road, was cordoned off by police for further investigation.
