Hundreds of purple-clad women took part in a demonstration in London, England on Wednesday – International Women's Day – to protest against the United Kingdom government's changes to the pension age, which means women now have to wait until 66, not 60, for their pensions.
China Daily spoke to people involved in the protest, including Jeremy Corbyn, ex-leader of the Labour Party.
One woman taking part said: "We are 1950s women on the cusp of our retirement and had another six years added on to our state pension age. And this was so last-minute, without any notification, that we are, lots of us, living in penury."
