Four US citizens who were traveling to Mexico for cosmetic surgery were shot and kidnapped by armed men there while driving to Matamoras, in a case that has attracted widespread attention. Two of the Americans were confirmed dead, and two were escorted back to the United States. Millions of US citizens travel overseas for medical care each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
