While the United States is busy coercing countries to submit to it and forming a gang to that purpose, China is calling on the world to stand together to promote peace and development, as indicated by the news conference held in Beijing on Saturday for the first session of the 14th National People's Congress that begins on Sunday.

Covering some key aspects related to China's socioeconomic development and diplomacy, the first news conference of the new five-year panel of the top legislature has given the latest indications of how Chinese lawmakers will help the country adapt and respond to the increasingly organized coercive, bullying, containment, decoupling and isolating attempts of the US.

Such efforts were apparent in the anti-China show Washington staged ahead of the annual sessions of China's top legislative and political advisory bodies that commenced on the weekend.

After the US Congress discussed seven anti-China bills and passed four of them on Tuesday supporting "Taiwan independence", the Joe Biden administration approved a potential arms deal worth an estimated $619 million to the Chinese island on Wednesday. It also put 28 Chinese entities on its Entity List on Thursday, citing breaches of US sanctions against third parties.

As before, the US administration's provocative moves will prompt the Chinese side to respond with countermeasures. These actions are meant not only to defend China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interests, but also uphold the United Nations-centered international rules that do not allow long-arm jurisdiction and flagrant breaching of the norms of international relations that the US has developed such a predilection for.

China's responses to the US' coercive moves are, therefore, always of global significance since they help offset the negative influences of the US practices on the rules-based international order as well as help safeguard global industry and supply chains.

Be it the country's high-quality development or its diplomacy, Chinese lawmakers strive to ensure their work serves the interests of the public and contributes to healthy relations with other countries.

In contrast, the US Congress is filled with mouthpieces for the rich who seek to use the law to unlock public coffers for private gain.

Unlike the anti-China theatrics and paranoia that characterize the US Congress, the newly elected NPC has indicated that it will carry on the top legislature's hallmark prudence, pragmatism and professionalism in handling issues related to foreign affairs.

While the US is stooping to new lows to weaponize its domestic laws in handling international relations, China is raising the standards of its legal work, attaching unparalleled importance to the professionalism, procedures and effects of its lawmaking and law enforcement to uphold the principles of independence, fairness and justice.

Although its domestic law provides a solid foundation for China to design and carry out resolute countermeasures to protect the country from being harmed by those who seek to suppress its development, it will by no means make national security an excuse to abuse its domestic law to attack other countries.
