A couple in Hefei, Anhui province, found their child conceived through in-vitro fertilization was a blood relation with neither of them due to medical error, according to a report by thecover.cn on Monday.
Chen Dong and Wang Lei - neither is their real name - went to a Hefei-based branch of the No.1 Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in 2011 for the procedure, and believed the boy was grown with Chen's sperm and Wang's egg.
The couple, now divorced, discovered otherwise in 2020. After an investigation, a court concluded the hospital had put the wrong embryo into Wang's body.
The man and woman said they hoped to find the whereabouts of their own embryo and determine the boy's biological parentage.
