Procurators nationwide initiated about 1,400 prosecutions related to national security from 2018 to 2022, according to data released by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Wednesday.
Sun Qian, deputy prosecutor-general of SPP, said that while laying charges of endangering national security and public security, prosecutors suggest severe punishment to the crimes of infiltration, subversion and secession.
The SPP also paid attention to improving the ability to detect and prevent such crimes.
Over the past five years, the number of people prosecuted for endangering national security remained small, accounting for 0.03 percent of the total criminal prosecutions during the period.
