Former Mayor of Hohhot charged with bribery
Li Jiexiang, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of Qinghai Provincial People's Congress, has been charged with accepting bribery, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Friday.
A procuratorate in Tianjin recently prosecuted Li for making use of his various positions working in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to illegally seek benefits for others and accept property in return, totalling an especially huge amount, the SPP said.
Li, 58, a native of the autonomous region, worked in the region for a long time. The positions he served in the region included vice-mayor of Baotou, vice-mayor of Tongliao, mayor of Hohhot, and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China committee in the region.
In 2019, he was transferred to Qinghai and became the executive vice-governor of Qinghai Provincial Government. In January 2022, he served as vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Qinghai Provincial People's Congress, and he was placed under disciplinary investigation in April.
Li used State-owned mineral resources for political transactions and engaged in superstitious activities. He ate and drank wantonly, engaged in hedonism and failed to report personal matters as required, said a statement by CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the country's top anti-graft body in September.
Having lost his ideals and convictions, Li had been deeply engaged in various illegal activities, including resisting investigation by authorities, accepting huge amounts of gifts and money, and intervening in judicial procedures, according to the statement.
