Embassy: Move by British side 'interferes in China's internal affairs'

Question: According to media reports, the British Prime Minister's spokesperson commented on the Jimmy Lai case, and claimed that Minister of State Anne-Marie Trevelyan of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office had met with the legal team of Jimmy Lai. What is your comment on this?
Embassy Spokesperson: This action taken by the British side interfered in China's internal affairs and undermined the rule of law in Hong Kong. We firmly oppose it.
China fully protects the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents in accordance with the law. At the same time, Hong Kong is a society based on the rule of law, and all illegal and criminal activities should be duly dealt with in accordance with the law. No one has the privilege of being above the law, regardless of their status or background.
China urges the UK to respect facts and the rule of law, stop meddling in Hong Kong-related affairs, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs.
