Guangzhou workshop committed to presenting quality proposals
The workshop of Cao Zhiwei, a member of the political advisory body of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, has been committed to presenting quality proposals in its ten years' history to fulfill its mission.
The workshop has insisted on self-funded researches and connecting closely to people its members represent, Cao said during an interview on Thursday.
Cao became a member of the Guangzhou committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in 2010 and now serves as a member of the standing committee of the Guangzhou committee. He founded the workshop in 2012.
The workshop has continued to follow up on some issues which have concerned people the most, through consultations with the government, and continued to supervise the government, Cao said.
A quality proposal by a political adviser should be based on means such as massive online questionnaire feedbacks, field visits and multi-sided evidence collection.
It should also be a result of in-depth research, fact checks and supplementation of data, he said.
The workshop is joined by 27 other national, provincial and city political advisors, four full-time staff members and more than 100 volunteers.
Cao became famous during the annual session of the CPPCC Guangzhou committee in 2013 by displaying a 4.4-meter-long graphic that detailed all the government approvals necessary for an investment project.
Cao used the graphic, which was dubbed the "10,000-Mile Long March Approval Map," to highlight the need for reform in government approval procedures.
The workshop has since presented a number of attention-grabbing proposals.
Most recently, it made three proposals to the National Health Commission on the COVID-19 control and received feedbacks from the commission, which made adjustments in related fields subsequently.
