Former CPPCC official in Yunnan indicted
Huang Yi, a former vice-chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, has been indicted on bribery charges, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said on Friday.
The SPP issued a statement on Friday saying that the National Commission of Supervision has completed its investigation of Huang, and the SPP designated the first branch of the Chongqing People’s Procuratorate to initiate prosecution.
The branch has filed the indictment with the Chongqing First Intermediate People’s Court, and prosecutors have informed Huang of his rights, interrogated him and listened to lawyers’ opinions, the statement said.
Prosecutors accused Huang of taking advantage of his multiple positions in Southwest China’s Yunnan province, including as Party chief of Baoshan city and former vice-chairman of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee, to seek benefits for others while accepting a large amount of money and valuables in return.
Huang, 64, a native of Yunnan, began working in 1975 and joined the Party in 1981. He served as Baoshan’s Party chief from December 2001 to June 2005 and was elected vice-chairman of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee in January 2017.
Huang was placed under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation in March 2022, and his membership in the 12th CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee was revoked in June. He was expelled from the Party in August, and the SPP approved his arrest a month later.
