Spain arrests group that smuggled e-waste to Africa

Spanish police have begun the year by arresting 43 people who smuggled over 5,000 tons of electronic waste from Spain to several countries in Africa.

According to the authorities, the group is suspected of having illegally shipped 331 containers of used electronics to Africa over the past two years.

It is alleged that they forged customs documents to falsely claim the containers were full of second hand items, with the total value of more than 1.5 million euros.
