New intercity railways begin operation
Two intercity high-speed railways linking cities in North China's Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region started operation on Friday, further promoting the region's coordinated development via integrated transportation, according to China Railway Beijing Group Co.
The trail runs over the railways and started in November.
One of them links Beijing with Tangshan in Hebei province. The other links Beijing with Tianjin's Binhai New Area.
They both start from the Beijing City Subcenter Railway Station in the capital's Tongzhou district, which is still under construction and has not been open yet.
They then both run across Tongzhou, Langfang in Hebei and Tianjin's Baodi district. At Baodi Railway Station, they run apart, with one toward the east to Tangshan and the other toward the south to Tianjin's Binhai New Area.
The Beijing-Tangshan line has a total length of about 150 kilometers with a designed speed of 350 km per hour. It has eight stations and will take about one hour for a one-way trip.
The Beijing-Binhai line has a total length of 169 km, with a designed speed of 250 km per hour.
With both lines operating, the railway network in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region will be further improved and facilitate people's travel in the region, the railway company said. More than 10,000 kilometers of railways in the region are now in operation, it added.
