1 dead in massive car crash in Henan
One person was confirmed dead in a series of crashes on a foggy bridge in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on Wednesday morning, according to the city's traffic police.
The incident was believed to involve some 200 vehicles, Henan Traffic Radio reported.
The chain of crashes happened around 7:40 am on the Zhengxin Yellow River Bridge. Police blamed limited visibility from heavy fog. Vehicles crashed in both two-way lanes, the police statement said.
Traffic will return to normal as soon as possible, it said. The road was being cleared.
By 9:30 am, 11 people who had been trapped inside their vehicles had been rescued. Eleven rescue trucks and 66 firefighters had been sent to the site.
Most of the vehicles were small cars, and none were carrying dangerous chemicals, according to local firefighters at the scene.
