The postal express industry in Chongqing has reached a new high in December since the beginning of its recovery.

Delivery data show that since Dec 5, the number of daily parcels received in the municipality has remained above 3 million. On Dec 8, express packages received and delivered in the city exceeded 1 billion, a record high.

According to Chongqing Postal Administration, as of Wednesday, all municipal-level parcel distribution centers have resumed operation, with 99.85 percent of the central urban area's end networks underway and 93.71 percent of employees in the industry returning to work.

From Dec 4 to 12, 31.67 million parcels were received in Chongqing — up 6.65 percent year-on-year.

On Dec 12, during a nationwide e-commerce shopping festival, 4.16 million parcels were received by the city's postal and express companies — basically the same as last year.

The administration called on the residents to show more understanding and support for the city's delivery services, as recent online shopping has surged, bringing the industry heavy workload. There is still a shortage of labor and transportation capacity.

The city's couriers are speeding up the overall planning of network resources, and some have added a night-delivery-mode, to relieve the city's backlog in deliveries during the peak season.

Chongqing, a municipality of 32 million people in Southwest China, reported more than 90,000 infections of COVID-19 at the peak of the most recent outbreak, which began on Nov 1. Most cases were found in 11 districts in central urban areas of the city.

Since early December, Chongqing has adapted to relaxed COVID-19 controls as the epidemic is curbed.
