Accident archives to be better managed

Chinese authorities have issued a circular on strengthening the management of archives regarding serious and major incidents. The archives are valuable records of the country's response to emergencies such as natural disasters, accidents and public health and social security incidents, according to the circular released by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council. The proper collection, preservation and utilization of those archives have significant meaning for learning from the past, maintaining national security and the public interest, and advancing the modernization of the State governance system and capacity, the circular said.

Phase III starts on bioenergy project

Construction on the third phase of a bioenergy recycling project in Shanghai to treat and reuse the city's wet waste more efficiently got underway on Sunday. With an investment of 1.65 billion yuan ($237 million), the third phase of the Shanghai bioenergy recycling center will cover nearly 20 hectares in the Laogang ecological and environmental protection base in Pudong New Area. The project, scheduled for completion in May 2025, is expected to handle 2,000 metric tons of wet waste per day. According to Shanghai Chengtou Environment Group Corporation, the project's investor, the third phase will be able to produce more than 3,600 tons of crude oil, 20,000 tons of carbon-based organic fertilizer and 80,000 tons of compressed natural gas annually.

Cameras to capture pandas in real time

Fifty intelligent infrared cameras that can capture and transmit images of animals in real time have been installed in the Chengdu area of the Giant Panda National Park. The newly developed devices use self-organizing network technology to realize the real-time wireless transmission of image data and apply solar power systems to provide an additional source of electricity, said Chen Peng, one of the developers from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
