oundry’s CIO100 2022 Awards recognizes the top 100 senior-technology executives and teams driving innovation, strengthening resiliency and influencing rapid change. It was first incepted in ASEAN member countries in 2019, starting with a list of 50 honorees, which then grew to CIO75 and now CIO100 for 100 honorees. The CIO100 2022 Awards were unveiled at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on Thursday (1/12/2022).

The award portrays the true representation of the regional market in the Asia Pacific region, as well as a true illustration of the outstanding achievements delivered by individuals and organizations alike. The categories, like the number of inductees, have expanded to new Team of the Year awards, spanning the key categories of innovation, customer value, strategy, talent, resilience and culture.

This year, more than 280 nominations were submitted across 20 industry sectors from countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar among others.

CIO admitted that their expansion was partially due to the large number of signups of prominent Southeast Asia Technology leaders, as the region has been making headway in the sector compared to other regions in the world.

The Indonesian technology company with the leading marketplace platform, Tokopedia, was able to win recognition for their CTO and CIO, as well as attain the Team of the Year title in the Culture category.

Herman Widjaja, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Tokopedia who leads the overall strategy and innovation of data and technology at Tokopedia, is once again an inductee, extending his streak for the third year in a row.

He is accompanied by the company’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief of Staff of technology Aswin Tanu Utomo, who is responsible for overseeing teams such as Front End, Core Enablers, Customer Service Engineering and Enterprise IT Group, who has received this award for the second year in a row.

Tokopedia has changed the e-commerce landscape in Indonesia as they have grown in revenue and users since it was first launched. In terms of its internal operation, the company has also been successful in creating a culture of collaboration, togetherness and trust. For this, they were able to win the Team of the Year award in the culture category.

They integrated three company initiatives to foster collaboration: Tech Bench, Challenge Period and MyCoach. The Tech Bench is a place where the top 1 percent of Tokopedia's talents have the opportunity to be mentored by other leaders and enroll in leadership-training programs. The initiative also gives appreciation and recognition to the best members of the team, incentivizing employees to do better.

The “challenge period” is an opportunity for all employees, or Nakama as they are called in Tokopedia, to develop their leadership, giving them clear goals, responsibilities and guidance. Similar to the first initiative, the “challenge period” also gave them a chance to hone their leadership skills in order to have a higher chance of success in their next role.

Lastly, MyCoach trains and certifies Nakama who have a passion for coaching and mentoring. That way, Tokopedia provides a portal that can be accessed by others who would want to learn from them. This culture of mentoring and collaboration is what put Tokopedia over-the-top when it comes to allowing their employees to grow personally and professionally.
