Livestock winter migration nears end
More than 750,000 livestock in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, have migrated from spring and autumn pastures to winter pastures, the prefecture's agriculture and rural affairs bureau said on Sunday. This year, 827,330 livestock in the prefecture needed to be moved between the pastures. The bureau added that to better care for the herdsmen, more than 100 service stops have been set up. A recent cold snap and heavy snowstorms severely affected the migration. Many rescue missions were carried out in northern Xinjiang to save herdsmen and livestock stranded in blizzards during the annual migration.

Smuggled products worth $5m seized
A smuggling case involving some 600 metric tons of frozen food worth 36 million yuan ($5.1 million) has been cracked, according to the coast guard in Fuzhou, Fujian province. After receiving tipoffs in early November, coast guards tracked two ships off the coast of Fuzhou during the transfer of frozen food from one ship to the other. The people on board were unable to provide valid documents involving the items. Consequently, the items were seized and 14 suspects have been arrested. Since the beginning of this year, the smuggling gang had ordered frozen beef, tripe and other products from overseas multiple times to smuggle into various destinations in China, authorities said.
