Climate change-themed film festival starts search for entries

The 8th China (Shenzhen) International Climate Change Film Festival will solicit film works globally from March until August, and selected films will be presented during the festival, according to organizers of the event.

The festival, to be held in Shenzhen, Guangdong province in September, will also include professional forums, exhibitions of green development, popular science seminars, and displays of the achievements reached at the 27th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27, that just concluded in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Speaking at a press conference during COP27, Miguel Naranjo, program officer with the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, applauded the role of films in promoting public awareness and action to cope with climate change, adding HCCFF, the first non-profit film event focused on global climate change in China, is one of the important projects UNFCCC supports.

A total of 10,416 films from 130 countries and regions have been part of the previous seven HCCFF festivals, and 206 have been selected for awards.

Awarded films during the previous festivals have also been displayed to the public for free to enhance awareness of climate change. Notably, many young students also took part in the festival by creating short videos themed on environmental protection, participating in climate-change themed photo contests and public speech competitions.
