As it gets colder, animal keepers in Wild World Jinan in Jinan, Shandong province, are adding scallions and garlic to the daily meals of some primates to prevent the animals from catching cold.

"Usually a chimpanzee has a scallion and three or four cloves of garlic every day. Scallions in this season are crispy and sweet, and the animals like them very much," said Zhao Qingwei, a keeper at the park.

Scallions are also given to other primates, including baboons, gibbons and macaques, Zhao said.
