Ministry recognizes outstanding firefighters

The Ministry of Emergency Management awarded 195 outstanding firefighters and 149 firefighting units on Wednesday, China's 31st National Firefighting Day, saluting the heroes who put themselves in danger to save others' lives. At the award gathering, Wang Xiangxi, the emergency management minister, asked for the system's prevention mechanism to be improved and for safety hazards to be eliminated, discovering risks at an early stage and carrying out early warning and prevention. He called to improve the joint response mechanism, strengthen communication and cooperation between different departments, and improve the capacity for prevention and rescue in massive fires and disasters.

1,700 counterfeit crime cases cracked

Authorities in China have solved more than 1,700 criminal cases involving online copyright infringement and counterfeiting so far this year amid an intensified crackdown on such illegal activities through multiple campaigns, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday. A number of criminal networks that produce and sell counterfeit goods have been eliminated during the process in an effort to create a sound online business and shopping environment for enterprises and consumers, according to a statement from the ministry. China will continue to crack down on cybercrimes of intellectual property infringement and piracy, said the ministry's food and drug crime investigation bureau.

Rare deer caught on camera in NE China

A Siberian musk deer was captured by an infrared camera at the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park in Heilongjiang province earlier this month, said the Dongning office of the park's management bureau. The deer was spotted on Nov 2 and was later identified by experts as an adult female. It is the first time since 2013 that such a deer has been spotted by the Dongning office. Siberian musk deer, under first-class State protection in China, have an acute sense of sight and smell. Known for its musk, an aromatic substance commonly used in perfumes across the world. Few in numbers, this vigilant animal is rarely spotted in the wild.
