Shanghai Legoland model unveiled at CIIE
A model of the Legoland Shanghai Resort was unveiled at the ongoing 5th China International Import Expo, with the resort's schematic design completed.
To be located in Jinshan District of Southeast Shanghai, the resort will be made up of a Legoland themed park and a hotel covering a total of 318,000 square meters. Families with children aged two to 12 will be the resort's major targets. British company Merlin Entertainments Ltd will be responsible for the operation of the themed park.
Integration of the Chinese culture and traditional water town elements, the latter of which is a major feature of the Yangtze River Delta region, will be one of the major highlights of the resort.
The agreement to open a new Legoland in Shanghai was signed during the CIIE in 2019. The groundbreaking ceremony for the resort was held in mid-November 2021.
The debut of the model during the 5th CIIE has demonstrated the company's confidence and commitment to seek long-term development in China, Chen Jie, general manager of Legoland Shanghai Resort, said at the ceremony on Sunday. The resort also aims to drive the development of related industries and enrich the cultural and tourism resources in neighboring areas, she added.
One of the stakeholders of Legoland Shanghai Resort, KIRKBI, also owns 75 percent of the Lego Group. The first Legoland was built in Billund, Denmark.
Danish companies' presence at the CIIE has grown considerably, according to H.E. Thomas Østrup Møller, Ambassador of Denmark to China. More than 30 Danish companies have been present at this year's edition, taking up the biggest exhibition area in five years. Food and green transition, the two sectors that are highly regarded in Denmark, make up two major features of the Danish presence at this year's show, he said.
