Fishermen from Xiapu county, Fujian province, are busy harvesting 4,300 hectares of nori — the Japanese term for edible seaweed that grows in shallow cold water.

Xiapu is known in China as a production center for nori, with a complete industry chain from growing seedlings to transplanting and processing. The annual production value of the industry is expected to reach 1 billion yuan ($137 million).
