Ex-political adviser arrested for corruption
The Supreme People's Procuratorate has announced its decision to arrest Shen Deyong, a former senior political adviser, for suspected bribe-taking. The National Supervisory Commission has completed an investigation into Shen's case and transferred it to procuratorial authorities, the SPP said in a statement on Wednesday. Shen was formerly a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and head of the advisory body's committee on social and legal affairs.
Discipline inspector indicted for graft
Liu Yanping, a former senior discipline inspector, has been indicted on charges of taking bribes. Liu was formerly head of the discipline inspection and supervision team sent by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission to the Ministry of State Security. Liu took advantage of his positions and power to seek benefits for others and illegally accepted a large amount of money and valuables in return, according to the indictment.
Investigation into mine accident ordered
The Work Safety Committee of China's State Council issued a notice asking Hebei province to carry out an investigation into an iron mine flooding accident early this month, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management on Wednesday. According to the preliminary investigation, 14 people died and one remained missing after Taoshuyu iron mine was flooded on Sept 2 in Qianxi county of Tangshan city, Hebei. A false report was also found. The committee has required Hebei to carry out an investigation, including into the cause of the accident, how it happened and the course of the false report. It also required the province to offer a solution to handle the aftermath of the accident. Before closing the case, the report will be released to the public by the committee.
