Xi sends condolences to Putin over school attack

President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence on Tuesday to Russian President Vladimir Putin over a school shooting incident in the Russian city of Izhevsk.
Xi said in the message that he was shocked to learn of the shooting, which took place on Monday and killed 17 people.
On behalf of the Chinese government and people and in his own name, Xi expressed deep condolences over the loss of life and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.
The shooting took place at School No 88 in Izhevsk, a city 960 kilometers east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region.
The government of Udmurtia said that 17 people, including 11 children, were killed in the shooting. According to Russia's Investigative Committee, 24 others, including 22 children, were wounded in the attack.
The governor of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, said that the gunman, who was registered as a patient at a psychiatric facility, killed himself after the attack.
