Former US federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner says former US president Donald Trump should be arrested immediately because he has doubts whether Trump has sold or given away some classified government documents, according to an article published on the Business Insider website on Sunday.

Kirschner stated his doubt in an episode of his YouTube channel. He shared: "The most reasonable inference is that Donald Trump disposed of those classified documents after unlawfully taking them from the White House."

"There is no legitimate argument, there is no persuasive argument, there is no compelling argument against arresting Donald Trump promptly," he said.

FBI investigators recovered nearly 100 empty folders after probing Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida for confidential White House documents, according to a detailed inventory unsealed and released by the Justice Department. The contents of the empty folders are missing.

"The least optimistic scenario is that they are nowhere to be found because they are already with someone else," Kel McClanahan, executive director of National Security Counselors, warned.

However, Trump has denied all assertions and said he had declassified those documents; "everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time". He claimed that the documents were destined for the presidential library he was planning to set up.

Concerning the classified documents, two aides for Donald Trump said he might use them as "leverage" for future political aspirations.

"We have to kind of think about why he does things and his motivations behind things," Alyssa Farah Griffin, the former White House communications director said during a panel with CNN on Sunday.
